Partnership Commitments of Sponsor Churches
Churches and groups who choose to sponsor a "Heart and Hand" house commit themselves to the following:
1) To raise money to purchase materials and provide necessary development (septic tank, etc...). Costs as of 2005 was $22,000 to construct a 960 square foot home.
2) To recruit and prepare volunteer workers so as to provide the labor and skill required in completing the home. In some cases, groups may not have contacts with persons with specific skills needed and must work with the Parish to identify those who can assist. Some of the more technical aspects of the project are normally contracted out and covered in the cost of the materials, etc.
3) The sponsor church shares the "risk" of financing the house with the Parish. One-half of the money to purchase the materials must be received by the Parish at least 90 days before construction is set to begin. The commitment to the project is needed much earlier (in most cases at least 6 months in advance). The remaining money is needed at the time of construction.
As families living in the "Heart and Hand" house makes payments to cover the cost of the materials, the Parish, at the end of each year, will return one-half of the amount paid by family to the sponsor church. The other half is kept by the Parish to continue ministry.
